2- What is the Base of ID Numbers?

ID numbers consist 11 digits. Last two digits are the confirmation numbers. This last two digits are being calculated from the first nine digit by means of an algorithm. Confirmation digit algorithm gives us information only for a specific ID number. This algorithm is being shared with the other governmental organizations.
An ID number pool is created to be distributed to the Turkish Citizens. These created numbers were registered and given to the Turkish citizens due to the county, book, family serial number and personal serial number.

It is not possible to have a person's identity information from the ID number which belongs to his/her any relative. Besides, there is no any meaningful information hidden in ID numbers such as who, gender, age, religion, birth place.

3- Can I exchange my ID number?

The ID number is assigned to a Turkish Citizen only once. Then, it is not possible to change nor alter.

4- Why can not I retrieve my ID number, although I entered all of the required information correctly?

You need to visit closest Civil Registration Directorate so as to make sure that your information and MERNİS system are consistent.
